What is Maeng Da Kratom?
Maeng Da Kratom is a Kratom strain that seems to stand out among Kratom strains. It’s the crème de la crème if you will. Kratom offers so many options, but Maeng Da Kratom is typically the go-to one. Consumers sing its praises all of the time while high off of its effects. Kratom in all of its forms offers the same things but in varying frequencies. So the question is, does the Maeng Da strain just do it all? The answer is both, “yes,” and, “no.” This strain may or may not turn out to be the one for you, but it’s important to know the story behind it if you’re interested in trying it, especially since there are those who look at the Maeng Da Kratom as a pack of lies disguised as a good time. They wouldn’t be totally incorrect.
Background on Maeng Da Kratom
Let’s give this strain some background. Like all Kratom, Maeng Da comes from Southeast Asia–Thailand, specifically. The name is derived from a water bug called Lethocerus Indicus. The water bug is actually a delicacy in Thailand, which is one of the reasons they chose to name the strain after it. The other reason is simply for marketing. You see, Kratom is over two centuries old–at least that’s how long the plant has been in use. Back in the day, when Kratom was starting to become exceedingly popular among its users, Kratom vendors needed a way to one-up their competition. In order to do that, they decided to start labeling their Kratom as “Maeng Da.” If you translate “Maeng Da” from Thai, it means “Pimp.” If you’ve ever heard the term “Pimp Grade” when talking about Kratom, that’s where it comes from (not the guys with the slick purple suits, sadly). The term “Pimp grade” generated buzz around whatever Kratom strain it was slapped in front of, thus making it much more marketable. This isn’t to say that Maeng Da isn’t entirely real, just that it’s not wholly natural. It’s an artificially enhanced strain of Kratom, which the industry is now known to have. Maeng Da Kratom contains more alkaloids than its original equivalent does. Alkaloids are the compounds in Kratom that give it its effects. Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are the primary ingredients that pull it off.
How Kratom is Made
It should be noted that all Kratom comes from red-vein leaves. The color of the strain depends on what drying process the leaves go through, but they all originate from red-vein leaves. Leaves of any other color are used for other purposes. Strain color also depends on the amount of UV light, lamp-light, and sunlight the leaves are exposed to. Fermentation and quality of the soil and location are also determining factors.
A number of variables determine variations in Kratom. Like every plant, Kratom can suffer or prosper depending on things like weather and seasonal changes. Should these changes affect the Kratom positively, it’s on its way to becoming Maeng Da Kratom. A Kratom tree that gets too much rain won’t produce anything of Maeng Da caliber.
Maeng Da leaves are a much darker color of green when compared to natural Kratom. These leaves become even more green once they’ve been crushed or powered. After that, they’re left to dry in one of four ways to determine what color strain they’ll be.
Red Kratom is made when the crushed Kratom leaves are left in air-tight backs at room temperature. A fermentation process takes place inside of the bag, and that’s that. Since pretty much all Kratom leaves are red veined, the Kratom will take this color naturally.
Green Kratom is dried inside a room with air conditioning. These rooms are also left dark; they try to shut out as much light as possible. Once the Kratom is ready, it’s taken outside to dry for around an hour.
Yellow Kratom comes from just mixing other Kratom strains.
Red and green strains of Maeng Da Kratom usually have white-veined leaves used in them. Adding white to the process gives the Kratom an even stronger effect.
The Benefits of Maeng Da Kratom
Maeng Da Kratom gives the user the same benefits as regular Kratom. The only difference is that Maeng Da reportedly does it better. You can use it for pain and stress relief, recreational purposes, and for boosting your energy.
How much more effective Maeng Da Kratom is compared to basic Kratom varies from user to user. Some have reported that it feels the same in both effectiveness and duration, while others have claimed that they’ve never had anything better. There have even been reports that the resulting high gives users and increased focus that is unlike the original.
In essence, Maeng Da Kratom makes you less stressed, gives you better memory and cognitive ability, a better high, more motivation, increased physical stamina, and better pain relief. Like most things, however, whether or not all of this is actually true can’t be determined without a personal test.
The Side Effects of Maeng Da Kratom
Despite all of its apparent differences, Maeng Da does have the same drawbacks as natural Kratom. Considering that this is a heightened strain of the stuff, however, it’s not hard to figure that the potential side effects will be a lot worse.
Kratom acts like an opioid. Interpret that any way you like, but the fact remains that the plant interacts with your body in the same way that a drug would. That means that overusing Kratom can result in having a dependency on it. Since Maeng Da is an enhanced strain, a user can unintentionally go overboard with it, and dependence can happen a lot easier. One needs to make sure that they’re diligent about how much of this strain they’re using at once.
Kratom also affects your body in the same way that coffee does. If you’re not careful with how much of it you’re taking, you can feel jittery and wired. You’ll basically overwrite the relaxing sensations the substance is supposed to give you.
Overuse can also leave a user feeling nauseated and can reverse the heightened sense of focus they’re supposed to have. In fact, overusing Maeg Da can basically reverse all of its beneficial effects.
When used, Kratom relaxes you. It does this because it acts as a sedative. Sedatives slow the rate of your respiratory system, so another issue to be wary of is trouble breathing.
Always, always, always use the recommended dosage, and if you feel you’re still not getting the desired effects of Kratom, you may be experiencing tolerance.
Tolerance happens when a user takes Kratom too frequently. As the name suggests, the user will begin to develop a resistance to Kratom’s effects. This can be dangerous because it can lead people to overuse in order to try and get their Kratom to work. This can lead them down the slippery slope of dependency rather quickly. The best way to deal with tolerance is to avoid using kratom all together for a while or increase the period between every use by a day or more.
The Right Dose for Maeng Da Kratom
If you’re a beginner and have made the decision to start out your Kratom usage with Maeng Da, you should start with half the recommended dose or less. Once you get an idea of how it works, increase the dosage by small amounts until you reach the recommended level. After that, you should be fine to enjoy your Kratom like everyone else.
